Maggie Macneal(nome verdadeiro: Sjoukje Lucie), nascida em Tilburg, 5 de Maio de 1950 é uma cantora holandesa, que fez sucesso entre os anos 70 e anos 80, cantando em língua inglesa. Representou os Países Baixos no Festival Eurovisão da Canção 1980, interpretando a canção "Amesterdam" cantada em neerlandês e que terminou em quinto lugar. Seu maior hit foi When You're gone.

Tommy James (nascido Thomas Gregory Jackson, 29 de Abril de 1947, Dayton, Ohio) é um cantor, músico, letrista e produtor norte-americano.
Em 1958 aos onze anos, a família de Tommy se mudou para Niles, Michigan. Aos doze anos, formou sua primeira banda, chanada Tom & the Tornadoes. In 1963, mudaram o nome para The Shondells.
Em 1964, um DJ local da rádio WNIL, de Niles, fundou seu próprio selo, Snap Records. Os Shondells foram umas das bandas locais gravadas por ele. Uma das canção foi a obscura "Hanky Panky", de autoria de Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich. A canção fez muito sucesso localmente, mas o selo não tinha recursos para promovê-la nacionalmente e logo foi esquecida.
Em 1965, um DJ em Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania encontrou uma cópia de "Hanky Panky" e a tocou como se fosse "exclusiva" da rádio. A resposta dos ouvintes foi positiva, que quiseram saber onde poderiam conseguir uma cópia do "novo" compacto. Um outro DJ começou a tocar a canção em festas locais. De olho na demanda, um pirata local gravou a canção do rádio em fita cassete e começou a prensar cópias da mesma. As vendas da cópia pirata foram estimadas em 80.000 unidades. O DJ de Pittsburgh "Mad Mike" Metro localizou Tommy James e informou a ele que a canção era o maior sucesso da cidade. Tommy quase desligou o telefone na cara do DJ, mas foi convencido a ir para a Pennsylvania e fazer aparições promovendo o não mais esquecido compacto. Logo, Tommy estava em Nova York vendendo o master original de "Hanky Panky" para a Roulette Records. No final do verão de [1966], era o compacto mais vendido do país.
Tommy James & The Shondells se separaram em 1970. Tommy seguiu carreira solo, e alcançou as paradas novamente com "Draggin' the Line" (4º lugar em 1971) e "Three Times In Love" (19º lugar em 1980). Tommy ganhou 23 compactos de ouro, 9 discos de ouro e platina e vendeu mais de 100 milhões de discos no mundo todo. Ele também escreveu o hit "Tighter, Tighter" em 1970 para o grupo Alive 'N Kickin', que vendeu milhões de cópias."Mony Mony" foi creditada a Tommy James, Bo Gentry, Richie Cordell, e Bobby Bloom, cuja gravação "Montego Bay" tinha alcançado o Top 10. "Mony Mony" foi a única canção que ficou entre as vinte mais tocadas no Reino Unido: alcançou o número 1, enquanto que nos EUA foi o número 3. A canção "Mirage" usa as cordas e a estrutura de "I Think We're Alone Now" tocadas ao contrário. Foi criada quando a canção original estava sendo tocada ao contrário, enquanto escreviam as letras.
A capa do disco "It's Only Love" foi a primeira foto profissonal tirada por Linda Eastman McCartney em 1966.
O título Mony Mony foi inspirado no nome de uma compania de seguros chamada Mutual Of New York, cujo logotipo podia ser visto do apartamento de Tommy em Manhattan. Tommy James & the Shondells recusaram um convite para tocar no festival de Woodstock, alertados pelo seu empresário, que achou que seria um suicídio para a carreira da banda.
Tommy James & the Shondells foi um dos primeiros grupos a gravar clipes, começando com "Mony Mony" em 1968 - treze anos antes do nascimento da MTV norte-americana. Várias bandas regravaram sucessos de Tommy James. Joan Jett (empresariada pelo ex-Shondell Kenny Laguna) alcançou o Top 10 com "Crimson and Clover" em 1982. Em novembro de 1987, Tiffany e Billy Idol alcançaram a primeira posição respectivamente com "I Think We're Alone Now" e "Mony Mony".
Mais recentemente em 2006, o trio finlandês The Micragirls incluiu uma versão de uma das músicas menos conhecidas dos Shondells, 'Go Go Gorilla' no seu disco 'Feeling Dizzy Honey'.
Quando Tommy partiu para a carreira solo em 1970, o baixista Mike Vale e o bateirista Pete Lucia formaram o Hog Heaven, e gravaram um disco pela Roulette Records.

John Royce Mathis nasceu em 30 de setembro de 1935, em Gilmor, Texas, filho de Clen e Mildred Mathis. Ainda criança, sua família decidiu mudar-se para San Francisco, e foi lá que aprendeu a gostar de música com seu pai, que comprou um velho piano por US$ 25,00 e ensinou-lhe a primeira canção, “My Blue Heaven”. Isso ocorria quando Johnny tinha 8 anos, sendo o único filho de Clen a se interessar por música. Aprendeu música de canto na escola, cantou em coral de igreja, eventos comunitários, para visitas em sua casa e também em pequenos shows em San Francisco. Johnny tinha 13 anos quando Clen o levou para conhecer Connie Cox, uma professora de canto com quem ele estudou por seis anos, aprendendo escalas vocais e exercitando produção vocal, clássicos e habilidade para ópera.
Um amigo que tinha um sexteto levou-o para cantar em uma boate chamada Black Hawk. Ilelen Hawk, dono da boate, ouviu-o e tornou-se seu empresário, e convenceu George Avakiow, gerente da ala Jess da Columbia, a ir vê-lo.
Então, George mandou um telegrama para sua gravadora dizendo que encontrou um “garoto fenomenal de 19 anos” que podia ficar famoso. A Columbia solicitou a Johnny que fosse para Nova York, a fim de começar os arranjos do seu primeiro disco. Isto ocorreu em 1956. Johnny Mathis, “um raro showman da música popular”, com interpretações inusitadas como “Babalu”, participou de musicais e filmes de Hollywood. Seus grandes sucessos são: Fly Me to the Moon (in Other Words), When Sunny Gets Blue, It's Not for Me to Say, Wonderful! Wonderful!, Chances are, Wild is the Wind, A Certain Smile, Misty, Maria, A Time for Us, Smile, When a Child is Born, Too Much, Too Little, Too Late.
Em 1957, ele se apresentou no Ed Sullivan Show e tornou-se uma celebridade.

Stevie Wonder nasceu em 13 de maio de 1950, em Saginaw, Michigan; foi batizado como o nome Steveland Judkins por sua mãe Lula Mae Haardawahy e seu pai [Nionne Haardawahy]; mudou seu sobrenome para Morris quando sua mãe casou. Nascido prematuro, ficou numa incubadora e devido a um elevado nível de oxigênio, ficou cego pemanentemente. Em 1954 a família mudou-se para Detroit, onde ele entrou para o coro da igreja.
Em 1953, ao ser conduzido a um concerto na Carolina do Norte, uma grande tora de madeira caiu sobre o carro em que estava. Wonder sofreu graves traumatismos na cabeça e ficou em coma por quase uma semana, mas conseguiu se recuperar.
Wonder tem sete filhos de vários relacionamentos e foi casado duas vezes: em 1970, com uma cantora da gravadora Motown, Syreeta Wright, da qual se divorciou em 1972 e, desde 2001, é casado com a designer de moda Kay Milla Morris. Sua filha, Aisha Morris, foi a inspiração para o seu grande sucesso "Isn't she Lovely". Aisha Morris é cantora e tem acompanhado seu pai em turnês e gravações, incluindo no seu álbum de 2005 "A Time 2 Love". Wonder tem mais dois filhos com Kay Mylla Morrys.

Formado por Paulinho (percussão e vocal), Serginho (bateria, voz e vocal), Nando (baixo, voz e vocal), Kiko (guitarra, violões e vocal), Cleberson Horsth (teclados e vocal) e Ricardo Feghali (teclados e vocal), o Roupa Nova existe desde 1980. Apareceram em 1978, com o nome de Os Famks, mantém ainda hoje a formação original.

Roberta Flack

Roberta Flack (10 de fevereiro de 1937, Asheville, Carolina do Norte) é uma cantora, pianista e compositora com uma das vozes mais afinadas da década de 70, nasceu na Carolina do Norte em 1939, numa família de músicos. Começou a estudar piano desde cedo, assim como a desenvolver sua bela voz. Formada em música pela Universidade de Harvard, cantava nos "pubs" de Washington quando foi contratada pela Atlantic Records, em 1969. Seu primeiro LP, First Take, teve uma certa repercussão, mas o sucesso veio com os compactos "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" e "Killing Me Softly With His Song". Em 1977, gravou ao lado de Donny Hathaway o sucesso "The Closer I Get To You". Considerada uma cantora soul, Roberta Flack revela influências jazzísticas e até clássicas em seu estilo pianístico.
